Peterson

Grantland Timber partners with Peterson Sawmills

A farmer-built sawmill for farmer-led forestry. We’re teaming up with Peterson Sawmills to bring
mobile, high-accuracy timber conversion to farms and communities across the UK.

From windblow to workbench — keeping value on the farm.

Grantland Timber

This partnership is about timber sovereignty—helping farmers, estates, and communities turn their own trees into
products on-site. Peterson’s swingblade sawmills are designed by people who actually mill: accurate, fast, and tough
enough for field conditions. We bring the UK Peterson Sawmills. We aim to train, create, develop a network of sawmills across the country.

Why this matters

Too many UK trees become biomass or leave the community as low-value logs. Mobile milling keeps value on the farm—
posts, cladding, beams, joinery stock—without waiting on distant capacity.

What we’re offering

  • Demonstrations & training days
  • On-farm conversion & contract milling
  • Sales, setup, & aftercare for Peterson mills
  • Project design for community builds & farm use

Who it’s for

Farmers, estates, furniture schools, community groups, and anyone serious about turning local trees into local
products—sensibly, safely, and profitably.

“Selling at stump is the worst deal in forestry. With the right mill, you control the grade, the yield, and the margin
— on your own ground.”

Why Peterson Sawmills

  • Accuracy & throughput: Swingblade systems handle big hardwoods and produce dimensionally consistent timber fast.
  • Field-ready: Mills are designed for real sites—uneven ground, limited access, and British weather.
  • Lower waste, higher value: Recover beams, boards, and posts sized for your job; not whatever a central mill sells.
  • Modular growth: Start with core capability; add accessories as your workload scales.

Want to see a Peterson in action, or map out your farm conversion workflow?

What this unlocks

  1. Storm recovery: Turn windblow into fencing, cladding, beams — fast.
  2. Development sites: Recover value from clearance instead of burning or chipping.
  3. Farm builds: Posts, rails, gates, shelters, barns — cut to your spec.
  4. Education & craft: Supply furniture schools and makers with local stock.

Working with networks

We’re engaging with farmers, community groups, and training providers to rebuild a decentralised timber network
across the UK. If you run courses, manage estates, or want to host a demo, we’d love to hear from you.

Frequently asked questions

Can you train our team on our site?

Yes. We offer on-site commissioning, safety induction, and practical training tailored to your timber, terrain, and outputs.

Do you sell the mills as well as mill timber?

Yes. We supply Peterson Sawmills, help you select the right configuration, and support setup, accessories, and aftercare.

What species and sizes can you handle?

From farm softwoods to large UK hardwoods (oaks, chestnut, elm, etc.). Swingblade systems excel on big logs and mixed dimensions.

Can you help with project design and yield planning?

Absolutely. We’ll map products to your needs (posts, cladding, beams, joinery stock) and plan sawing patterns for best yield.
