GRANTLAND & TIMBER

GRANTLAND FARM · POUGHILL, DEVON

The history of Grantland Farm

Grantland Farm stands in Poughill, Devon. Its farmhouse dates from the early 17th century, with the possibility that parts are older still.

The farmhouse

Built from cob on stone foundations and originally thatched, the house retains early oak beams, timber screens and a substantial stone fireplace. It became Grade II listed in 1985.

The farmstead

Nineteenth-century records show the farm’s courtyard, buildings and garden. Later maps depict ranges of farm buildings and orchards to the north and south. Some of those buildings survive alongside the farmhouse today.

Grantland today

Today, our work at Grantland brings together farming, produce, forestry and timber. The buildings carry the history; the farm’s next chapter is taking shape around them.
